When it comes to mentoring, one of the most important truths to always remember is that everyone is unique. Thus, as a key principle, focus on improving yourself rather than trying to become another person. Your goal should not be to become exactly like your mentor, but to remain yourself while learning from them. Individual purposes may be alike, but they are never the same.
As a mentor, your goal should be to help those you mentor become their better selves, not to be like you. Mentoring is not about dictating another person’s life, but about guiding them in their unique purpose.
The only person you should strive to be like is our perfect model, Jesus Christ.
